Baa Baa the sheep

When I first began knitting, I made lots of felted things. It was fun and satisfying for me then. Lately, I am SO OVER felting and am more excited by projects that challenge my skills more – the colorwork, sweaters, blah blah blah.

Or should I say Baa Baa Baa?

See, about a month ago I was in the yarn store with the kids and suddenly the Mag was super-excited about something. She was practically jumping out of the sling and looking up and shouting “BAA BAA!” After a minute I realized she had seen a felted sheep and was doing her best routine:

  • Me: What does the sheep say?
  • The Mag: Baa Baa.

“Baa” was actually one of her first words because I gave her a little sheep stuffed animal for Christmas, so we’ve had a lot of time to practice. And it’s really easy for a baby to say “baa.”

So then, last week we were in another yarn store and there was another sheep and more baa-ing. BUT this time Grandma was there and of course she thought it was the cutest thing ever and before we knew it I had the pattern and the yarn and Grandma’s orders to make that girl a sheep of her own.

I guess I’m back into felting again. At least for now.

A pre-felted sheep makes a very fun hat.

The first one is for Mag, but I believe I’ll have to make one for Jerry, too.  He may be the biggest Bionicle fan there is, but he still loves a stuffed animal from his momma.  The pattern is Felted Flock, by Fiber Trends and designed by Bev Galeskas.  I’m using two strands of worsted yarn held together, to make it big.  It’s gonna be cute cute cute!

Oh, that is cute. Isn’t funny how a kid’s request can get you to knit almost anything.

So CUTE! Especially the chubby little foot peeking into the laid-flat picture.

That sheep is adorable!! I haven’t felted anything (on purpose) yet. Maybe I should look into it!
