another hat

I want to show you pictures of all the slippers I’ve made and write my “Ode to Bev Galeskas” post that I’ve been writing in my head for weeks now.  I don’t want to ruin the surprise though, and with my luck, as soon as I pull the slippers out of their Top Secret Christmas Hiding Spot is the minute Maggie will come waltzing out from her nap.  Even if I could take pictures surreptitiously I would run the risk of having the kids see the computer screen at the exact moment I don’t want them to.

Now that I think of it, pictures of the slippers would be better if they are modeled shots.  I’ll restrain myself until after Christmas and woo you with another finished thing.

Big surprise.  It’s a hat.

The pattern is from the wonderful book Knitalong: Celebrating the Tradition of Knitting Together by Larissa Brown and Martin John Brown.  The hat was designed by Adrian Bizilia and is part of the Entomology Hat & Mittens set.  I used Cascade 220, as is my wont.  Knit on size US 4 needles, it is a nice sturdy fabric, and fits my very large head nicely.

I love the top.  However, I don’t love the scary faces that appear in between the bugs.  In fact, I don’t love the bugs either (ew! bugs on my hat!), but where Adrian will go, I will follow.

The hat is lined with Cascade Dolce in the pumpkin color, leftover from when I used it for these mittens.  The yarn is an alpaca, wool and silk blend and is supremely soft and cozy; perfect for a hat lining.  I knit it very tightly on size US 2 needles and it’s snug.  Warmest hat I have, I think.

Now I should knit the mittens, right?  I think I should.  Even though they have bugs on them.

I want to see the lining! I want to see the lining! :) The hat looks splendid and 99% of regular people (i mean, non-knitters) won’t see the bugs or the scary faces.
