A long time ago I said I wanted to crochet a ripple afghan to replace an old one. I tried a few times back then, but was not skilled enough to crochet into a foundation chain of over 100 stitches. I have since become a master of small circular crocheted things (actually, just potholders) and I decided it was time to give the old ripple another chance.
Although the starting edge looks a bit wonky (my chain was too loose, I think) I did it! Yay! The pattern is Easy Ripple Afghan by SusanB. Guess what? It really is easy.
When I got to the point when the above picture was taken I decided I needed a better color plan than just, “I’ll wing it!” So out came the bin of worsted weight wool and I pulled out a bunch of colors that I think will work.
I’m telling myself that the natural and neutral colors will help keep this afghan from looking ugly. Please don’t tell me if I’m wrong.
I’ve been able to do a lot of crocheting over the last 24 hours while I sit with Jerry, who is sick with a stomach bug. Right now he’s watching Netflix Instant via the Wii (hence the remote). I really hope he gets better quick, and I also hope the bug doesn’t spread. Now that would be some Mother’s Day gift.
Oh, yeah! Happy Mother’s Day! I got some Pyrex dishes and a couple of hanging baskets. I’m holding off on the Big Hugs until everyone is in the clear, tummy-wise. I suppose I’ll have to wait a day or two for my most treasured gift – the handmade cards. To all the Moms, everywhere, Happy Mother’s Day!

I aspire to make a ripple afghan someday. Yours looks like it will be a well loved beauty!
As always, I love your color choices. Looks great.
Love it! Blankets and amigurumi are the only real uses of crochet in my life. Knitting a blanket takes SO long, I would must rather ripple crochet one out relatively quickly. Great colors!
looks great, and I love the orange!!
I think it’s looking fabulous so far! You could always plug your colors into the random stripe generator to come up with an official pattern, too.

I really like it! Going with your instincts…yea.
