A few days ago Gerald told me about a guy he works with who is a Giants’ fan. This guy mentioned that he had a shirt that he’d been wearing for the last few victories. A lucky shirt, if you will, and Gerald told the guy he’d better be wearing the shirt for the game last night. So we got to talking about superstitions, and Gerald said he’s mellowed out in recent years knowing that what happens here in NC really has no influence on the outcomes of football games. Yet last night when he put on his Giants hat he said that he only puts the hat on after the Giants score their first points of the game. Ummmm….that’s superstitious.
And damned if I’m not superstitious, too. If you’re a long-time reader, you’ll remember my Superbowl Challenge from the last time the Giants went to the big game. When I learned the Giants were headed to the Superbowl, I challenged myself to knit a new hat for each of us; four Giants hats in 13 days. I successfully completed the challenge, and the Giants went on to beat their heavily favored opponent. I still have the magazine featuring The Helmet Catch.
A few weeks ago I had a hunch that I might be working on a new challenge this year. Yes, I’m doing it because I am totally superstitious. I helped them win the Superbowl last time with my knitting powers, and I’m going to do the same this year. Go Giants!
